Tennis has long teen accepted as a popular sport in the
surrounding area. If the College Station Recreation and Parks
Dept. accts promptly, it can increase the value of its tennis
facilities at Lincoln Center at a relatively low cost. In
order to accomplish this improvement, a new tennis court
will have to be built.
The existing surface,,because of its small size and be—
\ s Pace it egularitiesis unacceptable
I for tennis. This surface could be easily utilized in a
multiple -game capacity. With a minimum of development it
could be used for such activities as basketball, volleyball,
badminton, four-square, and tetherball.
A new court would expand the availability of tennis
facilities now offered from a mediocre singles court to a
modern doubles court. The doubles court could also have the
required fence added to it during the construction phase
of the operation. This would be much easier than adding a
fence to t"e eisting surface.
If the new court is built imfuediately the cost will be
much lower than what would normally be expected for a tennis
court development. At the present time all of the labor
with the exception of a concrete finisher can be obtained
free. The forming materials for the foundation with the
9
exception of the 2x4 braces and stakes will be supplied free
of charge. It is also possible that t:: ^:e city will not have
to pay for the base fill or the reinforcing iron for the
foundation. The city would in total pay for these additional
materials; 1) concrete, 2) rental of a motorized rotary trowel,
and 3) fencing materials for t -e net and for the enclosure
of the court area.
