A Rich History and a Bright Futm ■ RICH in tradition and his- tory, Bryan -College Station truly is "Smack in the Heart of Texas." The twin cities are nestled in the lush Brazos Valley, conveniently located at the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston and Austin/San Antonio triangle and easily acces- sible from all parts of the state. Residents boast of big -city conve- niences with small-town warmth and hospitality. ■THE GEORGE BUSH Presidential Library Center on the Texas ABM Campus in College Station opens in November. The library and museum will contain archives and artifacts from Bush's political career. Also included in the center is the Bush School of Government and Public Service, the Center for Public Leadership Studies and the International Center. ■ BRYAN was established in 1859 in honor of William Joel Bryan, nephew of Texas pioneer Stephen F. Austin. Incorporated in The Carnegie Library in Bryan is the oldest existing Carnegie Library in Texas. 1871, Bryan prospered with its robust agricultural resources and a railway system completed in 1876. That same year, the State of Texas established the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas just south of Bryan. Bryan is home to the Carnegie Library, donated by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Only 12 of the 34 original library buildings still exist today ■ COLLEGE STATION, Bryan's sister city, was planned as a model community by college professors when the college could no longer accommodate their living needs on campus. College Station, named as a railway stop by the Postal Service in 1877, burgeoned in the 1960s, when the college opened its doors to women and became Texas A&M University. 0 THE CITIES ' contrasting styles and variety of attractions have created a harmonious neigh- borly balance for visitors. Bryan has an impressive collection of beautiful homes and business sites with historical and architectural significance in its East Side Histori- cal District and its revitalized downtown area, alongside fine restaurants and community the- aters. College Station is an ener- getic and progressive city with 924 acres of parks and a statewide reputation for quality athletic events. It has grown up alongside Texas ABM University, a major education and research institution. 0 TODAY the twin cities form a delightful community to visit and a business and tourism destination with a unique blend of cultural opportunities and warm hospitality. 5 4_00 COI[EqE STATION xamowavaTion V'rnumber of National and Interna Tourna CO«EGE STATION PARIS AN PHONE: (409) 764-3486 FAX: (409) 764-3,737 a premier of Ad '` CiQ-iCri2f %G %Z :%CJ?Qii erience a wints— tr wonder and at Central Park! p Lio`tiqg Ceremony: November 25, 1997, 6:30 pm V*, (409) 764,3408 1he spectacular lighting displays throughout the month of D ber and join us December 4-5, 11-13 & 18-20 for Free Ha ides!
