Special City Council Meeting
November 16, 1977
7:00 P.M.
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Mayor Bravenec; Councilmen Ringer, Garnder, Dozier,
Halter, Stephenson, Hazen; City Manager Bardell;
City Engineer Ash; City Planner Mayo
MEMBERS ABSENT:
None
VISITORS PRESENT:
See guest register.
Agenda Item No. 1 -- Consideration of authorization of a resolution opposing
the proposed move of the ASCS office.
Councilman Dozier moved to send the resolution to the United States Department
of Agriculture.
Councilman Halter seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously.
Agenda Item No. 2 -- Closed session to discuss land acquisition and pending
litigation.
The Council chose not to go into closed session because they felt that certain
matters to be discussed should be open to the public. Public Works Director
Ford explained the plan for possible land acquisition.
Dr. Joe Natowitz, president of the A&M Consolidated School Board of Trustees,
proposed an option of acquiring the Lincoln Center and Anderson Street
properties.
Councilman Halter moved that the City go on record as not interested in the
Anderson Street property because of the price asked for it.
Councilman Dozier seconded the motion.
The motion passed by the following vote:
FOR --- Councilmen Gardner, Dozier, Halter, Stephenson; Mayor Bravenec
AGAINST --- Councilmen Ringer, Hazen
Councilman Halter moved that the City go on record as interested in purchasing
the Lincoln Center property pending negotiation of price.
Councilman Hazen seconded the motion.
The motion passed by the following vote:
FOR --- Councilmen Ringer, Gardner, Halter, Stephenson, Hazen; Mayor Bravenec
AGAINST --- Councilman Dozier .
Councilman Hazen moved to go into closed session to negotiate price and for
discussion of other matters.
Councilman Stephenson seconded the motion. OZ31~

The motion passed by the following vote:
FOR --- Councilmen Ringer, Halter, Stephenson, Hazen; Mayor Bravenec
AGAINST --- Councilmen Gardner, Dozier
Agenda Item No. 3 -- Action necessary on items discussed in closed session.
Councilman Stephenson moved that the City offer A&M Consolidated School District
$60,000 for the Lincoln Center property. Other services in the form of swimming
pool use with College Station bearing the full cost of maintenance will be
offered to equal the estimated value of $80,000.00.
Councilman Halter seconded the motion.
The motion passed by the following vote:
FOR --- Councilmen Ringer, Gardner, Halter, Stephenson, Hazen; Mayor Bravenec
AGAINST --- Councilman Dozier
Councilman Halter moved to send a letter of notice of possible suit to various
responsible parties for the substation problem.
Councilman Stephenson seconded the motion.
The motion passed by the following vote:
FOR --- Councilmen Ringer, Gardner, Halter, Stephenson, Hazen; Mayor Bravenec
AGAINST --- Councilman Dozier
Agenda Item No. 4 -- Other business.
The next City Council meeting was scheduled for Monday, November 28 at 7:00 P.M.
Agenda Item No. 5 -- Adjourn.
Mayor Bravenec declared the meeting adjourned.
