Agenda Item No. 1 -- Consideration of an ordinance establishing allowable
axle loads for ready mix concrete trucks and other vehicles.
Mayor Bravenec explained the ordinance.
City Manager Bardell stated further that the ordinance would only regulate
weights on streets maintained by the City rather than highways, farm-to-
market roads, or any other state maintained roads.
Mr. Don R. Cain asked how the trucks would get to homes they are servicing
without using residential streets.
City Manager Bardell explained that the ordinance would simply keep the limits
as they were prior to August 29, 1977.
Mr. B. D. Moore, of Bryco, Inc., stated that the reason for the law was not
to increase the loads that would be carried, but to legalize the loads presently
being hauled (8-9 cubic yards of concrete).
Mr. Jerry Windham, Bernath Concrete, stated that the Highway Department did
not oppose the passage of this law.
Mayor Bravenec and Councilman Ringer expressed the view that the City must
establish some feasible administrative procedure to insure that:
a. the concrete truck's weight will not exceed the limit
determined and,
b. that concrete trucks would avoid trips on all city
streets except when necessary for a job.
Councilman Stephenson moved to table the discussion.
Councilman Halter seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously.
Agenda Item No. 2 -- Consideration of authorization of purchase of telephone
stickers for ambulance~ fire and police service for distribution to College
Station citizens.
Mayor Bravenec excused Councilman Stephenson from the meeting.
Fire Chief Landua stated that there are about 28,000 phones on the 845, 693,
and 846 prefixes.
Councilman Halter moved to purchase 40,000 telephone stickers.
MINUTES, Special City Council Meeting
August 30, 1977
5:00 P.M.
Councilman Gardner seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously.
Concern was expressed that Mid-Tex Ambulance should reciprocate the City's
practice of:
a. calling the other ambulance department if they would be close
and still making the run although the College Station ambulance
may get there sooner, and
b. telling the caller that service is available in College Station
by dialing 911.
Mayor Bravenec referred problems with ambulance service by Mid-Tex Ambulance
to the City Attorney and City Manager.
A~enda Item No. 3 -- Discussion of Council procedures.
Mayor Bravenec noted the time spent on Agenda Item -- Hear Visitors and
suggested several alternatives.
The Council preferred to keep the item as it has been in the past.
Councilman Halter stated he could no longer attend the Tuesday meetings at
4:00 P.M. because of his class schedule.
The Tuesday meeting time was changed to Wednesday at 4:00 P.M. for a regular
basis.
Agenda Item No. 4 -- Adjourn.
Mayor Bravenec declared the meeting adjourned.
