A special council meeting was called to order at 4:30 P.M. on May 8, 1973 by Mayor
Hervey. The purpose of the meeting was to consider a new telephone rate ordinance
and other business. City Attorney James Dozier discussed the many problems con-
cerning the lawsuit by the telephone company and recommended that the City Council
adopt a new rate ordinance. On motion by Councilman Dale, seconded by Councilman
Bonnen, Ordinance No. 874, an ordinance fixing, determining, and regulating the maxi-
mum rates for local telephone service that the General Telephone Company of the South-
west, a corporation, its successors and assigns, may charge for its services within the
City of College Station, Texas; repealing all ordinances in conflict herewith; and pro-
viding for an effective date, was passed and approved with Councilman Adams voting
"no". Councilman Adams stated that although he was not opposed to a new rate
ordinance, he was opposed to an increase in the telephone rates.
On motion by Councilman Dale, seconded by Councilman Brison, Ordinance No. 873,
an ordinance providing for a public hearing on the question of rezoning a 1. 257 acre
tract of land located between The Treehouse Subdivision and the abandoned I&GN Rail-
road right-of-way from Single Family Residential District, District R-lC, to Apartment
Building District, District R-3, was unanimously passed and approved.
As there was no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned subject to call.
