HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/23/1969 - Special Minutes - City CouncilMINUTES SPECIAL COUNCIL SESSION CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS June 23, 1969 The City Council convened in a special session at 9:50 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 1969 with all members present, along with City Manager Ran Boswell, Assistant City Attorney Tom Giesenschlag and City Secretary Lynda Swoveland, to discuss condemnation proceedings and legal dispute matters on purchase of right-of-way for University Drive and Tarrow Street. Councilman Dozier moved that Assistant City Attorney Giesenschlag be authorized to buy the right-of-way on University Drive from the following persons at the prices stated below: Mr. Visoski $34,000 Mr. Donaldson $12,000 Mr. Maddox $15,000 O. B. Clifton $ 8, 200 ( this property has been purchased) Fannie Putz $42, 945 (this property has been purchased) Motion was seconded by Councilman Holt. Motion carried. Assistant City Attorney Torn Giesenschlag stated that condemnation proceedings on the remaining property owners would probably be started around July 15th. He stated that values on tracts of land owned by Hovorak, Fitch, Mais, Wheeler and Reiser, would definitely have to be decided by the court. However, he said that Gregory and Yarborough had not been reached yet but that he would try and contact them. Luza's property has been turned over to County Judge Vance for his action. City Manager Boswell asked for the council's ideas on the Tarrow Street improve- ments regarding the Putz property; some discussion followed among the councilmen. Councilman Holt stated that he did not think Mrs. Putz should have to pay for the extra curb and gutter. Agreement reached was that the City Manager proceed accordingly with the understanding that future developers would be required to pay for such. The law suit by Lee Norwood, former Chief of Police, against the City of College Station was discussed. Councilman McGraw moved that the Assistant City Attorney be authorized to enter into negotiations not to exceed $1, 600 and try and settle out of court. Councilman Cooley seconded the motion. Motion carried. Councilman Holt asked to be recorded as voting no. Mayor Anderson stated that he voted in favor of the measure with much reluctance.
