Boyce, J. W. Upham, W. D. Fitch, John Brayton, representative of Bryan Daily Eagle Minutes of the December 22nd meeting were approved. On motion by Councilman Boyett, seconded by Councilman Rosprim, the preliminary plat of Woodland Estates, Second Installment, was accepted and approved. Councilman Sorrels requested that he be recorded as voting no. Councilman Orr abstained. On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Sorrels, Ordinance No. 331, an ordinance providing for a public hearing on the question of zoning the area annexed by Ordinance No. 269 to "District No. 1, First Dwelling 0 House District" was passed and approved. On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Landiss, Ordinance y W No. 332, an ordinance providing for a public hearing on the question of zoning Qthe area annexed by Ordinance No. 324 to "District No. 1, First Dwelling W House District" was passed and approved. CL °75 A public hearing on these two ordinances was set for 7:00 p.m. February 26, 1962, at the City Hall. 0 On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the city 0manager was instructed to.contact the Barker Construction Company and advise co them that the city council would like for the work on Thomas Street to be finished as soon as the weather will permit. Otherwise the matter will be turned over to the city attorney for further action. Councilmen Anderson and Landiss suggested that the Planning and Zoning Commission study Ordinance No. 210 with the idea of recommending changes which would require that future developers of subdivisions set aside a certain percent of each subdivision for parks and recreational uses; the commission and city attorney study the same ordinance relative to minimum lot sizes as opposed to those enumerated in the ordinance. On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the mayor was authorized to appoint a committee to meet with officials of A & M College, the district highway engineer, Brazos County Commissioners Court, or other interested officials, relative to the possibility of a farm road along Jersey Street at the South of the campus. The mayor appointed a committee composed of Councilmen Anderson, as chairman, Landiss, and Rosprim. a offr'61. s On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Sorrels, each of the councilmen with two citizens from each of the city's three wards were h appointed as a committee to study the city charter for possible changes therein. Councilmen are to submit to the mayor names of citizens for this committee by 5:00 p.m. Friday, January 26, 1962. Councilman Orr read the following letter for the council: rr Mr. Mayor: �n For nearly 25 years you have served both as a councilman and as mayor of the City of College Station. You have given W unsparingly of your time and of your abilities. You have served with dignity and distinction. W CL You have indicated that it is your desire to retire at dS the expiration of this term of office, but we the following council members knowing of your abilities and the knowledge you have of municipal affairs, and also knowing that you can L-0 give the office the attention that is needed, do hereby 0 0 earnestly and sincerely request that you reconsider and allow m us to submit your name for Mayor of College Station in the April election. Fitch presented to the council a request for the annexation of certain property which is to be the third installment of the "Glade". On motion by Councilman Boyett, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the council assured Mr. W. D. Fitch that the cost of the bridge presently under construction on Glade Street would be borne entirely by the city. On motion by Councilman Boyett, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the city manager was authorized to advertise for bids to be received on Friday, February 23, 1962, for the improvement of Glade Street. It is the intention of the council that the improvement of said street be included in the 1962 60 summer program and if a contract is awarded construction will begin no earlier than April 15, 1962. W Councilman Boyett and City Manager Boswell reported that they had < purchasing conferred with Mr. E. M. White relative to the cit •s d y p ng of lot 13, W block 9, College Hills, and that lir.
