WORKSHOP CITY COUNCIL MEETING
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27, 1983
4:00 P.M.
COUNCIL MEMBERS PRESENT:
Mayor Halter, Councilmen Boughton,
McIlhaney, Runnels, Anderson, Prause, Reinke
COUNCIL MEMBERS ABSENT: None
STAFF PRESENT:
Asst. City Manager VanDever, City Secretary
Jones, Deputy City Secretary/Council Coordinator
Martin, Tax Assessor-Collector Dickson
VISITORS PRESENT:

Mayor Halter signed a proclamation designating April24-29 as National
Business Women's Week.
Agenda Item No. 1 - Council Concerns.
Councilman McIlhaney stated that in the future, the city crew should notify
property owners before cutting down trees to erect power lines.
Asst. City Manager VanDever indicated that the staff is working on new
procedures of notifying owners before their trees are cut down.
Councilman Runnels stated that he has had calls about citizens keeping
lions tied onto a chain outside. He asked if the new animal control
ordinance will include keeping of lions
Mayor Halter replied that he has met with the Animal Shelter Director Cathy
Richter who pointed out that the keeping of wild animals in the city limits
is not prohibited. The council could include a section prohibiting wild
animals in the proposed ordinance.
Councilman Reinke stated that there was a pot hole located at Todd Trail
and Southwood Drive and one on Frances between Marstellar and Ashburn St.
Also, she has received a complaint about speeding traffic at Anna and
Timber St.
~enda Item No. 2 - Council Committee Report.
Councilman Anderson, Chairman of the Finance Committee, stated that the
committee has had only one opportunity to meet with the BVAC regarding
their funding request for the upcoming year. He stated that the finance
committee feels that all requests should be considered prior to acting upon
the BVAC request. The finance committee cannot make a recommendation on
the BVAC request today.
Councilman Boughton stated that the Finance Director has pointed out to
them that the Hotel/Motel Tax Fund has received less revenues than what was
predicted last year.

Mayor Halter stated that a representative from the BVAC was present, Jody
Bates, and asked her if she would like to comment on this report.
Mrs. Bates indicated that she did not wish to comment.
Agenda Item no. 3 - Council to set date for Public hearing on Revenue
Sha~%n~ and Ope~ati~~
Finance Director VanDever recommended the public hearing on the Revenue
Sharing and Operating Budget be set for May 12th.
Councilman Runnels moved to set May 12th as the date for the public hearing
on the Revenue Sharing and Operation Budget.
Councilman McIlhaney seconded the motion which passed unanimously.
Agenda Item No. 4 - Adjourn.
Before the meeting was adjourned, Mayor Halter suggested that the College
Station City Council have a get together with the Bryan City Council at
Central Park. The councilmembers agreed to the get together and that a
date would be set at a later time.
Mayor Halter adjourned the meeting.
