On The Death Of
D. A. "ANDY" ANDERSON
the City Council of the City of College Station,
Texas, recognizes with respect and a great sense
of loss that D. A. "Andy" Anderson, a greatly
admired and beloved citizen and a former mayor
of this city, died on Thursday, May 31, 1984; and,
Andy Anderson resided in College Station for
fifty years and served the city as councilman
from 1957 to 1963 and as mayor from 1966 to 1971,
during which time he initiated a number of
projects which facilitated the progress and
expansion of the City of College Station; and,
through personal endeavor, sacrifice and perse-
verance, he was largely responsible for passage
of the amendment to the Texas Constitution to
allow state university faculty members to serve
in elective offices; and,
the professional accomplishments of "Andy"
Anderson were many, including publication of
numerous articles and a book, and were acknowl-
edged with statewide and national honors in the
field of forestry as well as recognition for
his other achievements; and,
his outstanding service to the community con-
tinued during his "retirement" years as, with
enthusiasm and guidance, he promoted and provided
inspiration for many worthwhile programs while
carrying forward with his research and literary
projects and maintaining an active interest in
civic events; and,
the impact of his influence upon the destiny
of this city and its people is discernible in
the status of the City of College Station as a
strong and progressive city, one which will
forevermore owe a debt of gratitude for the
dedication, foresightedness, and leadership of
D. Ao Anderson.

NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that this Council records
its regard, admiration and appreciation for the
life of D. A. "Andy" Anderson and that this res-
olution be made a part of the minutes of this
meeting and that a copy of this resolution be
forwarded to his two daughters, Mrs. Jean Bloomer
and Mrs. Margaret Dickey, who survive.
