AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE NO. 850, ESTABLISHING A MAXIHUM HEIGHT FOR
OETACHED SIGNS AND PROHIBITING CERTAIN SIGNS.
WHEREAS, the City Counc(1 held a public hearing in the City Hall aL 7:00 P.M. on
ThtLt'sd~¥, FebrtJa_T-y 10, 1983 on the question of amending the Zoning Ordinance
No. 850;
AND, WHEREAS, the City Council has determined to amend Ordinance No. 850;
THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINEO BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS:
THAT Section 8-D.~. and 8-0.12. of Ordinance No. 850, the Zoning Ordinance for the
City of College Stat ion, Texas are amended to read as follows:
8-D.9. DETACHEO SIGNS: A detached sign, any part of which is nearer to the curb or
pavement edge than (20) feet, may not have any part higher than (q½) feet above the
top of the curb or pavement centerllne, whichever is higher. Detached signs farther
than (20) feet from the curb or pavement edge may not have any part higher above ground
at the sign than (I/2) the distance from the curb or pavement edge; no detached sign
may exceed (35) feet in height; nor may the area of any detached sign exceed either
1.) the square of (]/6) the distance in feet from the base of the sign to the curb or
pavement edge or 2). more than one square foot of sign per two feet of plot frontage
on a public street, whichever is greater. No more than (1) detached sign shall be
allowed in any one building plot except when all of the following conditions are met:
(a). the site (building plot) must be zoned General Commercial C-I,
Commercial Industrial C-2, Planned Industria] M-l, or Heavy
Industrial M-2.
the site must be a minimum size of twenty-five (25) acres.

the site must have a minimum of 1,000 feet of continuous,
unsubdivided frontage on each major arterial on which a sign
is requested; only one (i) sign wi]! be permitted on each
major arterial; the major arterlal~ are designated on the
Comprehensive Plan for the City o~College Station.
PROHIBITED SIGNS: No attached balloons or other gas filled objects shall
be placed within the City of College Station.
This ordinance shall become effective ten (10) days after the date of approval and
publication.
