Agenda Item No. 1 - A ~ublic hearing on the ~roposal to increase
total tax revenues.
Mayor Halter opened the public hearing.
Mr. Bruce Treybig, 912 Pershing, stated that the general direc-
tion of the economy is down in the area as indicated by the in-
crease in foreclosures in the area. In addition, he noted that
TAMU has received a 6.9% cut in their funding from the state. He
pointed out that the increased valuation of his property by the
Central Appraisal District and the 9.03% proposed property tax
increase by the city will have a combined result of a 22% in-
crease in taxes on his property.
Mr. James Chandler, 2500 Monitor, expressed concern with the pro-
posed tax increase and questioned when the increases will stop.
He asked the Council to take careful consideration of these tax
increases considering the state of the economy. He noted that
continued increases in taxes detract from what he is able to pro-
vide for his family.
Mr. Bahman Yazdani, taxpayer in College Station, expressed his
appreciation to the Council for what it does for its citizens.
He stated that he does not understand why another library in Col-
lege Station is needed and suggested that the Council support the
Bryan Library. He thanked the Council for its efforts directed
at energy conservation.
No one else spoke. The public hearing was closed.
