WHEREAS,
Brazos Beautiful, Inc., is an organization dedicated
to a cleaner and more beautiful Brazos County; and
WHEREAS,
the Board of Directors of Brazos Beautiful, Inc.,
passed a Resolution encouraging all citizens of
College Station and all other citizens of the county,
to plant Crepe Myrtle plants, particularly in loca-
tions visible to others; and
WHEREAS,
Brazos Beautiful, Inc., also asked the City of College
Station to adopt a Resolution encouraging College
Station citizens to plant Crepe Myrtle plants on pub-
licly owned property; and
WHEREAS,
the City of College Station has long recognized the
beauty and color that the Crepe Myrtle plant provides
to the local scenery, and therefore has used the Crepe
Myrtle in city landscaping projects, including its
use in the beautification of the Municipal Complex
and as memorials at the College Station Cemetery; and
WHEREAS,
the City of College Station wishes to endorse these
steps to enhance the beauty of this community and to
make it into a place recognized as the "Crepe Myrtle
Capital of Texas."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS,
THAT, efforts shall be undertaken to encourage the citizens of
College Station to participate in planting and in promoting the
planting of Crepe Myrtles; that this program shall become a
community endeavor; and, that all individuals, organizations,
and businesses are urged to become part of a movement to turn
this community into the "Crepe Myrtle Capital of Texas."
