AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 3~ SECTION 1, SUB-SECTION B(27) OF
THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION RELATING TO
BUILDING REGULATIONS, EMERGENCY EGRESS OPENINGS (BUILDING CODE
SECTION 1104.4), AND PROVIDING FOR WINDOWS OF A MINIMUM NET
CLEAR OPENING OF TWENTY-FOUR (24") INCHES BY TWENTY (20") INCHES
IN SLEEPING ROOMS.
WHEREAS, on the 24th day of January, 1985, the City Council of
the City of College Station met in a regular meeting and heard
evidence concerning the need for egress or rescue windows from
sleeping rooms of residences. The Council further heard evidence
concerning the minimum size requirements of said windows.
WHEREAS, it was recommended that all egress or rescue windows
from sleeping rooms have a minimum net clear opening of twenty-
four (24") inches by twenty (20") inches.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
COLLEGE STATION THAT:
Chapter 3, Section 1, Sub-Section B(27) of the Code of Ordinances
of the City of College Station relating to building regulations,
emergency egress openings (Building Code Section 1104.4), is
hereby amended to read as follows:
"(27) Section 1104.4 shall be amended to read as follows:
Every sleeping room in one and two family residences
shall have at least one operable window or exterior door
approved for emergency egress or rescue. The units must
be operable from the inside to a full clear opening
without the use of separate tools. Where windows are
provided as a means of egress or rescue, they shall have
a sill height of not more than forty-four (44") inches
above the floor.
Ail egress or rescue windows from sleeping rooms shall
have a minimum net clear opening of twenty-four (24")
inches by twenty (20") inches.
The EXCEPTION is deleted."
II.
This ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and
effect from and after its passage and approval by the City
Council and duly attested by
