June 17., 1952
After a public hearing on the 1952.53 city budget the City.
Council met in a called session at 8:00 p.m. on June 17, 19522
with the following present: Mayor Langford, Councilman Badgett,
Boyer, Boyett, Fitch, Pugh, and Sorrels; Assistant City Secretary
Boswell, and City Secretary McGinnis.
The following were present at this meeting and the budget
hearing as visitors: D. B. Cofer and N. D. Durst.
Councilman Fitch made a motion, seconded by Councilman Boyett,
that Ordinance No. 172 be passed. This is an ordinance fixing
the schedule of rates for electricity within the cityand is to
be effective with the billings to be made for the month of July,
1952.
The Council vote on the motion was: For the motion, Councilmen
Boyett, bitch, Pugh and Sorrels; against the motion, Councilmen
Badgett and Boyer. There being a majority vote in favor of the
passage of the ordinance, the Mayor declared it to be adopted.
Councilman Badgett made a motion, seconded by Councilman
Boyer., that the city's budget for 1952-53 be adopted as read.
The council vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Councilman Pugh made a motion,, seconded by Councilman Fitch,,
that Mr. Ran Boswell be employed as City Manager at a salary of
$5,000.00 per year and that he be required to establish residence
within the city by October 1, 1952.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Councilman Badgett made a motion, seconded by Councilman
Boyer, that the city discontinue the assessing and collecting of
the A. & M. Consolidated School taxes as soon as is possible.
The vote of the council was unanimous in favor of the motion..
