July 14., 1952
The City Council met in regular session on July -14., 1952, at
7:00 P.M. with the following present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen
Badgett., Boyer, Boyett, Fitch, Pugh and Sorrels; City Attorney Barger;
City Manager Boswell; and City Secretary McGinnis.
The following visitors were present at this meeting- Mr. and
Mrs. L. S. Dill -on, J. J. Sperry, Charles LaMotte, C. D. Laverty,
R. J. Baldauf, Les'Richardson, C. A.. Bonnen, J. S. Rogers, D. M.
Vestal, E. E. Brown., E. J. Redman Jr. and Henry Allen.
Councilman Badgett made a motion, seconded by Councilman Sorrels,
that Ordinance No. 1.73, an Ordinance adopting a budget for the 1952-53
Fiscal Year and authorizing expenditures as therein provided, be adopted.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in, favor of the motion.
Councilman Pugh made a motion, seconded by Councilman Badgett.,
that a resolution be adopted requesting the Texas Highway Department
to make that part of Highway Number 6 within the City limits of the
City of College Station a four lane, highway.
Councilmen voting for the motion were: Badgett, Boyer, Boyett., and
Pugh,, Councilman voting against the motion: Sorrels. Council -Mai).
Fitch did not vote on the motion®
Mayor Langford was authorized by the Council to negotiate with
Mr. W. D. Burkhalter pertaining to his letter requesting repairs to
the concrete slabs in front of his business building at the East
Gate area.
The Council agreed to take under consideration the request from
Dr. J. D. Lindsey to give Highway Number 6 a name.
Councilman Pugh made a motion, seconded by Council -man Badgett,
that Mayor Langford write a letter to the Railroad Commission of
Texas, Austin, Texas, requesting a deferrment of the hearing on the
request of the Texas and New Orleans Railway Company to discontinue
trains numbers 15 and 16, from July 29, 19529 until sometime after
January 1, 1953.
The Council. 'vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Councilman Badgett made a motion, seennded by Councilman Sorrels,,
that Ordinance No. 174, an Ordinance defining the city limits between
the City of College Station and the City of Bryan in the Oak Terrace
addition, be .pa -s -sed-.

The Council vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Dr. La Motte was the spokesman for a small group from College
Hills protesting the Ordinance removing the discount from the
utility statement each month. This group also requested the
Council to read Ordinances pertaining to money matters three
times before adoption.
The members of the A. & M. Consolidated Independent School
District Board met with the City Council t4 discuss the part
the City would play in assessing and collecting the school taxes.
Councilman Fitch made a motion, seconded by Councilman Boyer,
that beginning with the tax rolls for 1953 the City will be paid
4% for all taxes collected for the school. This rate was unanimously
agreed to by the School Board.
The Council vote was unanimous in favor of the motion.
