POSTPONED REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
September 25, 1953
The City Council met in a regular session, postponed from
September 21, with the following present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen
Boyett, Orr, Pugh, Seegar and Sorrels; City Manager Boswell, City
Attorney Barger, City Secretary McGinnis. Visitors present were A. M.
Gaddis, Bardin Nelson and the following members of Boy Scout Troup No.
102, College Station: Tom Ivy, George Litton, Mike Luther, Jack McNeely,
David McNeely, Ralph Shuffler, Jimmie Simpson, Ernest Tanzer, Bennie
Trotter and Bobby Wilkins.
A discussion was held pertaining to a petition from certain
residents of College Dills concerning the operation of a business by
Sidney L. Parkers in their residence on Francis Drive.
Councilman Sorrels made a motion, seconded by Councilman Orr
that the Mayor write a letter to the'Parkers calling their attention
to the zoning regulations relative to the operation of a business in
a restricted residential area. and that a copy of the letter be sent
to each of the signers of the petition.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
The Mayor read a letter from Dean W. W. Armistead requesting that
the "City Limits" sign on Highway No. 60 west of the railroads be
moved two-tenths of a mile furthur west to include the new Veterinary
center. The Mayor was authorized to advise Dean Armistead that this is a
matter beyond the power of the City.
Councilman Orr made a motion, seconded by Councilman Pugh, that
the City Manager be authorized to move the 1130 miles per hour" speed
limits sign from its present location on Highway N0.305 to the circle
at the intersection on Highways No. 60 and 305.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Councilman Orr made a motion, seconded by Councilman Sorrels,
that the City Manager prepare signs limiting parking to thirty minutes
on the north side of Sulphur Springs Road from Tauber to Stasney
Street and on the east side of Tauber Street from Sulphur Springs
Road to the alley in the rear of the College Station State Bank.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Councilman Orr made a motion, seconded by Councilman Pugh, that
Ordinance No. 155, an. Ordinance annexing "The Knoll" addition to the
City of College Station, be adopted.
The Grote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Councilman Orr made a motion, seconded by Councilman Sorrels,
that Ordinance No. 156, an Ordinance vacating the alley between
lots 6 and 7, Block 1, Southeast College Park addition, be adopted.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
