NOVEMBER 23, 1959
Members Present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Orr, Sorrels, Anderson, Landiss,
Boyett; City Manager Boswell; City Attorney Dillon.
Visitors Present: John T. Sell, Wayne Clement, Jack C. Smith, Manuel Rodriguez,
Robert J. Beal, Jack A. Harzke, Robert E. Martin, Earl C. Strom, Harold Coppedge,
Robert Hawrtlak, Charles A. McBride, Thomas R. Starr, C. Dieter Ufer, Don H. Young,
Gary A. Shephard, John E. Huebinger, Edgar C. Pierson, Ronald E. Chastain, George A.
Robero, James D. Pate, Robert L. Burch, Alexander Meri-Akri, Dennis W. Jom s, and
L. L. Lowery.
On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Anderson, Councilman
Smith was excused from this meeting.
On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Anderson, the minutes
of the previous meeting were approved.
On motion by Councilman Landiss, seconded by Councilman Orr, the mayor was
authorized to renew a note in the amount of $3,000.00 at the College Station State
Bank.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Anderson, Ordinance No. 288,
an ordinance creating a reading committee for literature covered in Ordinance No. 287,
was passed and approved.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Landiss, the mayor and city
secretary were authorized to sign for the city the following resolution:
Acting by and through its proper officials, duly authorized, the
following contract is entered into by and between the city of College
Station and the Commissioners Court of Brazos County, to -wit:
The city of College Station does hereby agree, where it is feasible
to answer any fire calls outside the city limits of the city of College
Station, provided that the city is requested to do so; and provided further
that the Commissioners Court of Brazos County agrees to pay the said city
at the rate of $5.00 per mile and at the rate of $1.50 per man per hour
actually spent in fighting any fires.
It is further understood and agreed that the city manager will pre-
pare a statement as soon as possible after any fire and submit same to
the judge for the County of Brazos for consideration.
On motion by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Orr, Ordinance No. 289,
an ordinance concerning the licensing of peddlers, was passed and ordered published.

On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Sorrels, the mayor and city
manager were authorized to secure bids for the purchase of thirty chairs for the
council room.
On motion by Councilman Sorrels, seconded by Councilman Orr, the mayor, city
manager, director of finance, and the utility office manager were authorized to
secure bids for draperies for the south wall of the council room.
On motion by Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman Boyett, the council ap-
proved the use of the council room by any group of interested citizens, provided
permission is first secured through the office of the city manager.
The meeting was adjourned subject to call.
