APRIL 11, 1960
The city council met in special session at 5:00 p.m. with the following
present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Boyett, Landiss, Orr, Sorrels; City Manager
Boswell. Those present constituting a quorum, among other proceedings transacted
was the following:
ORDER DECLARING RESULT OF CITY ELECTION
Councilman Sorrels introduced a resolution and order and moved its adoption.
The motion was seconded by Councilman Landiss, and the motion carrying with it the
adoption of the resolution and order prevailed by the following vote: Ayes: all
present; Noes, none.
The resolution is as follows:
There came on to be considered the returns of an election held on the
5th day of April, 1960, for the purpose of electing the hereinafter
named officials, and it appearing from said returns, duly and legally
made, that there were cast at said election 204 valid and legal votes;
that each of the candidates in said election received the following
votes: For Mayor: Ernest Langford 190, Gibb Gilchrist 9, W. E. Kidd 1,
Fred Smith 1, Luther Jones 1; For Councilman: Ward I, Carl W. Landiss 61,
Edward Burns 1, C. H. Groneman 1; Ward II, J. H. Sorrels 98, A. H. Alex
12; Ward III, A. P. Boyett 30.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE
STATION, TEXAS:
That said election was duly called; that notice of said election was
given in accordance with law, and that said election was held in ac-
cordance with law, and that Ernest Langford was duly elected mayor of
said city at said election and A. P. Boyett, Carl W. Landiss, and J.
H. Sorrels were duly elected councilmen at said election, and said
above named parties are hereby declared duly elected to said respective
offices, subject to the taking of their oaths as provided by the laws
of the state of Texas.
Passed and approved this 11th day of April, 1960.
