NUMBER 2-22-96-R-10
RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION POLICE
DEPARTMENT TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION FOR COMMUNITY ORIENTED
POLICING SERVICES (COPS) UNIVERSAL HIRING GRANT FUNDS,
WHEREAS, the City Council of College Station has expressed commitment to
providing for the Health and Safety of its citizens; and
WHEREAS, the City of College Station Police Department's current Community
Oriented Policing Program has successfully demonstrated that the problem-solving
approach to policing is effective in building positive relationships with citizens and
neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Justice has issued a Notice of Funding Availability for
COPS funding; and
WHEREAS, the eligible activities under the COPS Program are consistent with the
strategies identified in the Police Department's 5-Year Operational Plan; and
WHEREAS, eligible activities under the COPS Program can be expected to enhance
the City's existing Community Policing services, and alleviate health and safety
concerns.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of College
Station that the City Manager is authorized to execute documents for the submission of
the COPS application to the U.S. Department of Justice.
