PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSIONERS: Chairman Rife, Commissioners
Horlen, Parker, Mooney, Kaiser, Floyd
Warren absent
ZBA: Chairman Alexander, Members Hill, Happ, Bailey, Lewis, Ellis, Murphy
Mayor McIlhaney opened the joint workshop meeting at 5:15 p.m.
P&Z Chairman Rife called the joint meeting to order.
Mr. Hill called the joint workshop meeting to order.
Development Services Director Callaway gave a brief overview of the existing
comprehensive plan including land use, thoroughfare, parks and recreation, and
transportation. He stated that the staff has worked hard to implement the plan since it
was adopted in 1997.
Each board member expressed their comments and concerns about the existing
comprehensive plan.
The following is a summary of these comments.
Utilization of comprehensive plan. Need plan for East Bypass, SH 30 area, and Highway
6 South
Evaluation of objective statements and goals in Comprehensive Plan
Wolf Pen Creek implementation plan
Highway 30 development

Need for more resources in Planning and Zoning offices
Thoroughfare plan East Rock Prairie Road to Green Prairie
Major "holes" in Plan
East Bypass - Land Use and Development
SH 40/Victoria Design
Future school development
Gateways to College Station
Responsibilities and Authority of Planning and Zoning Commission
Strip Commercial
Graham Road study
City initiated rezonings for current industrial areas
Wellborn Road/Railroad Relocation
Public Notification of Meetings through different medium
The Planning and Zoning Commission agreed to prioritize these issues and present a
ranking to the council in the near future. A subsequent agenda of the city council will
include a staff briefing of these results.
Hearing no objection the meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
