HomeMy WebLinkAbout3-23-2000-13.04 - Resolution - 03/23/2000RESOLUTION NO. 3-23-2000-13.04 A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION REQUESTING THAT THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (TXDOT) BEGIN PRELIMINARY STUDY AND DESIGN OF A GRADE SEPARATION AT THE INTERSECTION OF BARRON ROAD AND STATE HIGHWAY 6 SOUTH AND STATING THAT THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION COMMITS TO PAYING ITS TEN PERCENT LOCAL SHARE OF RIGHT-OF-WAY ACQUISITION AND UTILITY ADJUSTMENTS FOR THIS PROJECT. WHEREAS, Council's Vision Statement g6 states that Citizens will easily travel to, within and from the commtmity; WHEREAS, a grade separation at Barton Road and S.H. 6 South is a high priority to the City of College Station due to continued growth and development in south College Station; WHEREAS, as traffic volumes on the S.H. 6 Frontage Roads continue to rise with new development, the two-way operation of the Frontage Roads will become more problematic and less safe due to its high speeds and increasing driveway conflicts; WHEREAS, a grade separation at Barron and S.H. 6 South is a key piece of infrastructure needed for the eastward extension of Barton Road and for the conversion of the S.H. 6 Frontage Roads between Rock Prairie and Greens Prairie from two to one-way operation; WHEREAS, the conversion of the Frontage Roads from two to one-way operation is needed to address operational problems at the Rock Prairie Road interchange and is key to all three alternatives addressing the Rock Prairie interchange problems presented by TXDOT at their February 8, 2000 meeting at the College Station Junior High; WHEREAS, a grade separation at the intersection of Barton Road and S.H. 6 South is included as a planned project on the Bryan-College Station Metropolitan Planning Organization's Transportation Plan and is therefore eligible for development by TXDOT; and WHEREAS, Ban'on Road is shown as a minor arterial on the City's Thoroughfare Plan and a grade separation at Barron Road and S.H. 6 South has been shown on the Thoroughfare Plan since 1994; now, therefore. BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of College Station, Texas, that the City of College Station requests that the Texas Department of Transportation begin preliminary study and design of a grade separation at the intersection of State Highway 6 South and Barron Road and the City of College Station commits to paying its 10 percent share of right-of-way acquisition and utility adjustments for this important project.
