HomeMy WebLinkAbout8-10-2000-12.09 - Resolution - 08/10/2000RESOLUTION NO. 8-10-2000-12.09 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, URGING THE TEXAS MUNICIPAL LEAGUE TO SUPPORT PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION TO INCREASE THE COMPETITIVE BIDDING LIMIT. WHEREAS, the competitive bidding limit of municipalities is set at $15,000 according to Chapter 252.021 (a) of the Texas Local Government Code, and WHEREAS, the State of Texas, and the counties, school districts, and special districts of Texas currently have a competitive bidding limit of $25,000. WHEREAS, increasing the competitive bidding limit for municipalities from $15,000 to $25,000 would allow standardize the bidding threshold for the state, municipalities, counties, schools, and special districts and would ease the complexity of public bidding for vendors WHEREAS, increasing the competitive bidding limit from $15,000 to $25,000 would allow municipalities to make routine purchases more effectively and efficiently; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of College Station, Texas: PART 1' That the City Council hereby urges the Texas Municipal League to support the passage of legislation to increase the competitive bidding limit. PART 2: That the City Council hereby supports the passage of a bill amending the Texas Local Government code, Chapter 252 to increase the competitive bidding limit to $25,000. PART 3: That the passage of such legislation would allow municipalities to make routine purchases more effectively and routinely while standardizing the bidding threshold for state, municipal, counties, schools, and special districts and ease the complexity of public bidding. PART 4: That this resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage. ADOPTED this 10th day of AUGUST , A.D. 2000.
