A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE
STATION, TEXAS TO SUPPORT THE MUTUAL GOALS AMONG THE
TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, THE TEXAS
TRANSPORTATION INSTITUTE, AND SEVERAL LOCAL, COUNTY, AND
STATE AGENCIES REGARDING A STUDY OF INTELLIGENT
TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE IN THE BRAZOS
COUNTY AREA.
WHEREAS, the City of College Station is committed to and realizes the benefits
of working cooperatively on regional transportation issues;
WHEREAS, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) should improve
transportation safety and efficiency; enhance transit integration and operations;
reduce auto vehicle emissions; and improve traveler information for emergency
and special events;
WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation, the Texas Transportation
Institute, and the Cities of College Station and Bryan have financially matched a
federal grant to integrate ITS technologies in the Bryan / College Station
metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21)

requires the completion of an ITS Regional Architecture prior to spending federal
funds on ITS technologies.
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of College
Station, Texas:
THAT the City Council supports the Memorandum of Understanding as
submitted by the Texas Transportation Institute on behalf of the Texas
Department of Transportation with regard to the ITS Regional Architecture Study;
THAT the Mayor of College Station is authorized to sign the Memorandum of
Understanding;
THAT the staff will take administrative and procedural actions to implement the
resolution; and
THAT this resolution becomes effective immediately upon adoption.
