HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-13-2005-13.04 - Resolution - 10/13/2005RESOLUTION NO. 10-13-2005-13.04 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING THE CREATION OF A NEW FEDERAL DISTRICT DIVISIONAL COURT. WHEREAS, the creation of a Federal District Divisional Court in Bryan/College Station would benefit business, law enforcement and the citizenry since access to a Federal Court is currently only through the Houston Division of the Southern District Of Texas, which serves one of the largest population centers in the United States; and WHEREAS, the creation of a six county Federal District Divisional Court, consisting of Brazos, Grimes, Madison, San Jacinto, Walker and Waller Counties of the State of Texas would provide the citizenry of those counties with greater access to the federal court system; and WHEREAS, legislation is to be introduced in Congress creating this Federal District Divisional Court; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Brazos Valley and more specifically, Bryan/College Station, for this Federal District Divisional Court to be located in Bryan/College Station to serve its citizenry and the citizenry of the Brazos Valley; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS: PART 1: That, after considering the history and need for the creation of a new Federal District Divisional Court, the City Council hereby endorses and supports the creation of a new Federal District Divisional Court located in Bryan/College Station for the benefit of Bryan/College Station and the Brazos Valley. The City Council further directs that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to our elected representatives to demonstrate the widespread support for this Project. PART 2: That the City Council hereby authorizes the Mayor of the City of College Station to sign this Resolution for the purpose of supporting and endorsing legislation to create a Federal District Divisional Court in Bryan/College Station for Bryan/College Station, Texas, and for the Brazos Valley. PART 3: That this Resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage. ADOPTED this 13th day of 0 ST: ber, A.D. 2005.
