Councilmen Ames, Brown, Crawford, ~arrington, Orr, Wilcox; and City Manager Smithj and City Secretary MoGinnis. The meeting was called for the purpose of considering the appointment successor to Mr. Smith, City Manager, and to consider an ordinance ~loatiag a street in Cooner Addition. Mayor Langford presented the names of Francis A. Vaughn and R. B. Riddle as possible nosiness for the position of City Manager of College Station. Tho Council discussed freely and maloab~y the qualifications of each man and Toted -~_a~4-_~usly to appoint Mr. Vaughn as City Manager at an annual salary of $4OO0.00 effective July 1, 1946. On motion of Councilman Orr, seconded by Council~e~ Crswford, Ordinance No, 89 entitledl "An Ordinance Vacating a Certain 8treat Along Lot 5, Block 3, and Lot 17, Block l, According to a ~ovisod Plat of Those Blocks, Cooner Addition, City off College Station, Texas,# was passed at the first reading. The CounoX1 adopted unanimously a Resolution expressing its deepest sympa~ in the passing of Luke Patmnella~ ~_~OLUT ION The City Council records with deepest sympath~ the death of Luke Patranella. Affectionately kno~.~ as Luke, in his passing the oo~nuntty has lost a public-spirited citizen and the youth of the oc~,nunity a fine friend. He was always courteous and kindly disposed, and his like will not be seen among us soon. The Council reckoned Mr. Patranella as one of its most loyal supporters, lie was never too busy when his counsel was needed, and he gave freely of his time and energy to the end that the City of College Station might be a bettar place in which to live. This Resolution is therefore adopted unanimously this 17th day of June, 1946, and it is ordered that a certified copy shall be sent to Mrs. Patranella and a copy spread on the Minutes of the Council.
