MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
November 18, 1943
Members present: Mayor Langford, Councilmen E. E. Brown,
R. L. Brown, J. A. Orr, C. IN. Crawford; Business Manager
L. D. Smith, Dean Gilchrist- visitor.
Motion by Mr. Orr, seconded by Mr. Crawford,that Mr. Borger
prepare ordinance for parallel parking at the No Gate on
Sulpher Springs Road in front of the business houses, be-
ginning at N.E. end Varner's Jewelry Store, extending S. .
and including Lilly Creamery Place,motion carried by all '
present.
Motion by R. L. Brown, seconded by C. W. Crawford that L. D.
Smith be instructed to employ a City Marshall; and 'deputize (3
him as prescribed by law. Ordinance No. 29 was repealed.

Among other matters presented was a resolution in reference
to the necessity for taxi-cab service in the city limits; of
the City of College Station.
Mayor Ernest Langford and Business Manager L. D. Smith were
instructed to prepare a resolution and present same to the
Office of Defense 'Transportation.
Motion was duly made and seconded ad was unanimously passed.
RESOLUTION.
Be it resolved by the City Council of the City of College
Station, Texas:
Whereas, the population of said City of College Station,
1 Texas, has been increased and there is now in the community
soldiers, sailors, and marines of the armed forces of the
united States, and that there is not sufficient trans-
portation by bus, railroad, or otherwise to move the military
and civilian population, the necessity exists for taxicab
service within the limits of the City Of College Station.
Now therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of the
City of College Station, Texas, that the two taxicabs be
allowed to use the streets, avenues and public grounds of
said city subject to regulations thereof; and that a copy
of this resolution be sent to the Office of Defense
Transportation.
