HomeMy WebLinkAbout1991-1883 - Ordinance - 02/14/1991ORDINANCE NO. 1883 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 4 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS BY AMENDING SECTION 14 TO REGULATE THE WEARING OF BADGES AND UNIFORMS SIMILAR TO THOSE WORN BY THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE DISPLAYING OF VEHICLE COLOR AND IDENTIFICATION SIMILAR TO THE VEHICLES OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION POLICE DEPARTMENT. WHEREAS, the City of College Station City Council at its regular meeting on February 14, 1991, held a public hearing with regard to the uniforms worn by private security firms~ WHEREAS, representatives of the City of College Station Police Department testified before the Council as to the problems that have been caused or could be caused by private security firms wearing uniforms similar to those worn by the City of College Station police officers~ WHEREAS, representatives of the City of College Station Police Department testified before the Council as to the problems that have been caused or could be caused by private security firms wearing badges similar to those worn by the City of College Station police officers~ and WHEREAS, representatives of the City of College Station Police Department testified before the Council as to the problems that have been caused or could be caused by private security firms driving vehicles similar to those driven by City of College Station police officers~ NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the City of College Station City Council that: Chapter 4 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of College Station is hereby amended by amending Section 14 to read as follows: "SECTION 14: BADGES, UNIFORMS, AND IDENTIFICATION OF VEHICLES. A person other than a member of the College Station Police Department commits an offense if he wears the uniform or badge of the College Station Police Department, or a uniform or badge so similar as to be mistaken for the uniform or badge of the College Station Police Department. A person other than a member of the College Station Police Department commits an offense if he drives a vehicle of color or identification so similar as to be mistaken for a patrol vehicle of the College Station Police Department. II. This ordinance shall become effective and be in full force and effect sixty (60) days from and after its passage and approval by the City Council and duly attested by the Mayor and City Secre- tary.
