AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE "ADOPT-A-SPOT" PROGRAM AND SETTING
GUIDELINES FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF THE "SPOTS" IN THE CITY OF
COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the city of College Station created
the Community Appearance Committee for the purpose of utilizing
city and private resources to maintain and improve the visual
quality of life in College Station, Texas;
WHEREAS, the City Council adopted an "Adopt-A-Spot" Program in
October, 1986, by way of Ordinance No. 1672 to enable citizens,
either individually or as a group, to adopt a City of College
Station public area for maintenance and/or improvement;
WHEREAS, maintenance and responsibility of the "Spot" needs to be
more clearly defined;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, that the "Adopt-A-Spot" Program is hereby
amended to recite the following:
"The Mayor is hereby authorized to enter into agreements with
residents of College Station to adopt a City of College Station
public area under the following guidelines:
(1)
Anyone wishing to Adopt-A-Spot shall submit an applica-
tion to the Oommunity Appearance Committee. The com-
mittee shall review all applications.
Upon approval of an application, the committee shall
forward that application to the office of the City Man-
ager or his delegate for review.
Upon approval of the "Spot" to be located by the com-
mittee, applicant shall enter into an agreement to
maintain the adopted "Spot".

a. Monthly attention by the applicant.
b. The area should remain litter free.
o. Weeds and deoeasod plants should be removed.
d. Any other required attention will be noted on
the application upon approval by the commit-
tee.

The applioan~ shall not be responsible for~
a. Irrigation (unless no~ed on the application).
b. Pestioide treetment.
c. Yertilisation.
(4) In the event that applicant seeks to landscape, make
improvements, or otherwise alter the "Spot", plans for
said alterations shall be submitted for review to the
committee and upon approval to the City Manager or his
delegate.
(5) City shall upon adoption of the "Spot" designate the
location with a sign provided by the city of College
Station naming the organization or individual who has
adopted the spot.
(6) Locations adopted shall be reviewed on an annual basis
during the July meeting by the committee for determina-
tion of whether the applicant has conformed with the
maintenance requirements of the agreement entered into.
(7) Guidelines in seleoting a potential "Spot" are to be
determined by the oommtttee. These guidelines should
inolude safety, aooessibility, and maintainability."
