HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-16-08-2h - Resolution - 12/16/2008RESOLUTION NO. 12- 16 -08 -2h A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, ASKING THE 81 TEXAS LEGISLATURE TO ENACT LEGISLATION THAT WOULD PROVIDE INNOVATIVE TOOLS FOR MUNICIPALITIES TO USE TO FUND TRANSIT AND TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS. WHEREAS, the City of College Station recognizes transportation issues impact the quality of life of members of the community; and WHEREAS, the City of College Station recognizes state and federal resources for transportation infrastructure have declined significantly in recent times; and WHEREAS, the City of College Station needs additional funding resources to adequately meet the transportation infrastructure needs of the community and visitors to the City; and WHEREAS, the City of College Station strongly supports initiatives by the leadership and members of the 81 Texas Legislature to address transportation infrastructure needs of local governments including the enactment of legislation that introduces new, optional funding mechanisms available to local governments that would require the approval of voters in an election. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS: PART 1: That the Mayor of College Station is hereby authorized to execute this Resolution supporting the passage of legislation by the 81 St Texas Legislature that provides municipalities new options for funding to be dedicated to transit and transportation infrastructure projects including innovative proposals such as but not limited to: (a) vehicle registration fee; (b) local gas tax; (c) new /used car sales tax; (d) driver's license fee; and (e) increased sales tax PART 2: That this Resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage.
