From before WTAW became WTAW, sports broadcasting has been a big deal and still is, especially on Friday nights where our Bryan Broadcasting family of stations airs live football play -by-play of seven Brazos Valley high schools. General Manager Ben Downs talks about the history of all that. 00:00:42 Ben Downs (BD) Little known fact is that we're actually licensed to the City of College Station. And so that was kind of how we divided things up, the other company-- the other broadcasting company in town gets the Bryan games, and we got the College Station games, the Consolidated games. As time went on and we got more stations and we bought more stations and we put more signals on the air, slowly but surely, we decided to make a really big investment into it. And so, we got them all now, we have all four of the local high schools, their high school play by play. And, uh, we also do Navasota and we do, um, St. Joseph's and we do the Buffalo Bison on our station down in-- in Buffalo. So yeah, yeah, we made a big commitment to high school sports. And in 2006, we made our move and we became the flagship of Texas A&M Athletics, which I guess is the subject for another show. 00:01:38 (TT) Well, yes, a matter of fact, it is, because Bryan Broadcasting now broadcasts 6 varsity sports of Texas A&M Athletics. So, stay tuned. That is another show on WTAW, the First 100 Years.
