This is WTAW, the First 100 Years, I'm Tom Turbiville. Over 100 years, the WTAW studios have
welcomed many events, many celebrities, future senators, even a future President Bush before he
became Governor Bush. But in 1989, for then and now employee Michele McNew, it became,
much to her surprise, her wedding venue.

One day, this guy I was datin’, decided to show up at my office, and we had been dating a while
and it's not like we hadn't talked about getting married or anything [chuckles]. He showed up at
the office one day and walked in and they called me to the front and said, “Would you like to get
married”? I was like, “Well, yes”. And he says, “Okay, how about right now”? Oh my gosh, and
so what was I supposed to say? And I was like lookin’ at him and I finally said, “okay”, and then
all of a sudden here comes all our family and our pastor from our church. And we all-- they
swept me into, uh, the middle office area and Mimi came over and said, “I got this beautiful
dress if you want to change”, and I was like, “I'm fine, I'm fine”. I guess I was like in shock
kinda, you know? So, we went into the conference room and Mary Mike and the girls, Gail
Spears, all them back in the day had decorated it up and had me a bouquet of flowers which I
still have and, you know, champagne glasses and a cake and the whole 9 yards but, sna-- I got
married, thus, in the conference room of the radio station in 1989 wearing bobby socks and
tennis shoes.

And the love story between Michele and Kyle McNew continues. It all started at WTAW the
First 100 Years.
