Here's your ride! 00:00:16 Speaker 4 16.20 WTAW. 00:00:19 Tom Turbiville (TT) This is WTAW, the first 100 years. I'm Tom Turbiville. Scott DeLucia can tell a lot of the story of the last 50 years of these 100. Sports has been a big part of our programming for that time, starting when Scott was a color commentator and then play-by-play voice for A&M Consolidated Football. And with that, Scott brings some stories of those years of the 1960s and 70s. 00:00:46 Scott DeLucia (SD) Because when I'm in high school, I'm writing about guys I'm going to school with. Baseball team, I always loved, because baseball players are free spirits, as we all know, and the basketball team. And you know two of my best friends, one was on the basketball team, one was on the baseball team. And so, I was writing about them, and, and we, I don't know, got together and we were drinking years later or something. He said, you know, you're basically the keeper of the flame. You're the one who kept all these facts and figures about what we did. Rob Slider, who's a good friend of mine, we were next door neighbors for a period in his time. And you know he and I were classmates. And so, here's a guy who went from A&M Consolidated to the Montreal Expos organization. And uh you know, he was in the back of Sports Illustrated, faces in the crowd. That was, that was kind of cool, you know to be able to chronicle that stuff. He struck out every batter. 00:01:33 TT And Scott covered some classic crosstown rivalries. 00:01:37 SD And one of the great games that I remember was Kemp and A&M Consolidated playing. It was 33 degrees and there was water standing on the field. There were four people in the press box and two people in the stands.
