This is WTAW, the first 100 years. I'm Tom Turbiville. A beauty of the 1950s and still a beauty
today is Nat Rizzofi Coad. So much so that in 1959, Nat Rizzofi was Miss WTAW, represented
the station in May of that year in the Miss Brazos Valley pageant at the Townshire Center in
Bryan. It all started, she recalls, with a phone call from a WTAW disc jockey, Don Frederick.

Uh, he was the disc jockey, and he said there was going to be a contest. And I said, oh, really?
You know, and I said, okay. And he said, well, I think you should enter it. And he said, I think
you have a good chance. And I went, Yeah, all right, or something, you know, rolled my eyes.
And so, he said, no, I think you should. And so sure enough, I did. And as you know, I came in
first.

That 1959 experience led to more pageants.

And then I guess a couple of years later, the Skyway Drive-In Theater was having a contest, but
it was for the Miss Texas. And so, everybody said, you should do it, you should do it. You know
you were Miss W, y’know Miss WTAW and blah, blah, blah. I went, okay, well, I-I think I
placed in that, but I didn't make it to Miss Texas. But to me, it was the most wonderful
experience to be Miss WTAW.

It is no wonder that WTAW wanted Nat Rosoffi as the face of the station. Her involvement with
the community was vast, and that is a story for another edition of WTAW, The first 100 years.
