also cover interactive/online communications, direct marketing, media relations, community relations
and special events.
During the last 10 years, our capitalized billings have grown from $17 million to $60 million.
Sixty percent of these gains have come directly from the growth of existing clients. The success
of Rives Carlberg, in other words, is inseparable from the success of the clients we serve.
Our history goes back to 1948 and the founding of Houston business-to-business shop Rives Dyke.
Smith Smith Baldwin Carlberg opened its doors in 1971 and focused on retail and consumer
advertising. In 1975, multinational agency Young & Rubicam purchased both companies to create
Rives Smith Baldwin Carlberg/Y&R. Chuck Carlberg and his employees bought back the company
from Y&R in 1986. Since then, billings have more than tripled.
During a career that spans thirty years of creative leadership, President, CEO and Executive Creative
Director Chuck Carlberg has been recognized with honors ranging from ADWEEK Southwest’s
“Best Creative Director” to the American Advertising Federation’s National Silver Medal “saluting
outstanding professional contributions to both creative excellence and social responsibility.”
In all three years, 2000-2002, Rives Carlberg won more first-place medals at the Houston
Advertising Federation’s Addy Awards than any other agency.
