RESOLUTION NO. o6-o9-11-2j
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION
TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEES TO EXECUTE
DOCUMENTS NECESSARY FOR THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION
FOR COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES HIRING RECOVERY
PROGRAM (CHRP) FUNDS ON BEHALF OF THE CITY AND TO ACT ON ITS
BEHALF WITH RESPECT TO ANY ISSUES THAT MAY ARISE DURING
PROCESSING OF SAID APPLICATION.
WHEREAS, the City Council of College Station has expressed commitment to providing for the
health and safety of its citizens; and
WHEREAS, the City of College Station Police Department's current Community Oriented
Policing Program has successfully demonstrated that the problem-solving approach to policing is
effective in building positive relationships with citizens and neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Justice has issued a Notice of Funding Availability for CHRP
funding to assist law enforcement agencies to create and preserve sworn officer jobs and increase
their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts; and
WHEREAS, the eligible activities under CHRP are consistent with the strategies identified in
the Police Department's Operational Plan; and
WHEREAS, eligible activities under CHRP can be expected to enhance the City's existing
Community Policing services, and alleviate health and safety concerns.
WHEREAS, the City Council acknowledges that the grant requires the City to pay any
associated costs above entry level sworn officer salary and benefits.
WHEREAS, the City Council acknowledges that the grant requires the City to retain said
positions for at least 12 months after the 36 months of federal funding has expired for each
position; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of College Station:
PART 1: That the City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager or his designees to
execute documents necessary for the submission of a grant application for
Community Oriented Policing Services Hiring Recovery Program funds to the
U.S. Department of Justice on behalf of the City of College Station and to act on
its behalf with respect to any issues that may arise during processing of said
application.

PART 2: That this resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage.
