HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-12-25-8.4 - Resolution - 06/12/2025RESOLUTION NO. 06-12-25-8.4 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, ESTABLISHING A STEERING COMMITTEE TO PROVIDE GUIDANCE AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE CITY FOR AN UPDATE TO THE CITY'S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MASTER PLAN. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of College Station recognizes the importance of long- term strategic planning to guide future decision -making, promote sustainable growth, and enhance the quality of life for all residents; and WHEREAS, the City Council adopted an Economic Development Master Plan in 2013, establishing a shared vision, mission, and strategic goals to guide the City's economic development efforts; and WHEREAS, the Economic Development Master Plan was updated in 2020 to reflect the evolving economic conditions, industry changes, and community needs, maximizing the potential for sustainable growth and development; and WHEREAS, the City desires to pursue a new update to the Economic Development Master Plan to address current conditions, encourage public engagement, and provide a plan to implement community priorities; and WHEREAS, the success of the Economic Development Master Plan depends on broad community engagement and collaboration among City officials, staff, residents, and stakeholders; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to establish a steering committee consisting of city officials, industry experts, and partners in economic development to oversee and guide the planning process, encourage committee input and ensure the plan reflects the needs and aspirations of the entire community; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS: PART 1: That the City Council of the City of College Station shall create an Economic Development Master Plan Steering Committee (Committee) to oversee the Economic Development Master Plan update. PART 2: That the Committee shall be composed of ten (10) to twelve (12) local individuals from the following entities: • City Council Economic Development Committee; • Chair of the Planning & Zoning Commission; • Chair of the Tourism Committee; • Representative from Texas A&M University; and • Representatives from the local business community, including real estate, financial services, workforce, entrepreneurship/innovation, and major industry sectors. PART 3: That the City Council gives the Committee the following charge: "Provide guidance and oversight throughout the strategic planning process, facilitate and encourage community engagement, identify key issues, trends, and opportunities, and recommend strategic priorities and goals for the Economic Development Master Plan update." PART 4: That the City Council delegates authority to the City Manager or his designee to appoint, remove, and fill vacancies for all Committee members. PART 5: That the Committee will serve as needed and will dissolve after completion of the Economic Development Master Plan update is approved and adopted by the City Council. PART 6: That this Resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage.
