Thank you for your interest! Page 12 çÎÑÈÐØôÊÊÈØ ðÎÛÔÑÔÉÄðÎÏÉÕÑÄ East College Station Transportation Study TheEast College Station Transportation Study is almost finished! The final step is amending the College Station Thoroughfare Plan to reflect the recommendations of the study. Over the past month, city staff have been working with neighborhoods and individual property owners who will be impacted by the proposed changes. The proposed changes will be presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council as a thoroughfare plan amendment on November 15th and December 13th, respectively, Each of these meetings will be held at the Council Chambers in the College Station City Hall at 7:00 pm. For the latest details on this study, please check out www.cstx.gov/TranStudy. The Texas Transportation Commission recently selected a City of College Station Safe Routes to School project for funding! The proposed project will improve the pedestrian connections to A&M Consolidated Middle School and Oakwood Intermediate School by installing sidewalks along Holik Street from George Bush Drive to Anna Street and along Anna St from Holik Street to Glade Street. Currently, students that live in the adjacent neighborhood must walk in the street or in the grass to get to school, so this project will be a significant improvement. The overall project is expected to cost just about $63,000 with TxDOT paying $47,710. If you have questions regarding this project, please contact Ken Fogle, Transportation Planner, by e-mail (kfogle@cstx.gov) or telephone (979.764.3570). Transportation Project Update TxDOT is continuing to make progress on the Texas Avenue widening project. Over the last few months, construction crews worked hard to reconstruct all of the intersections along Texas Avenue where median openings will exist. At this point, two lanes of traffic flow in each direction in the outside lanes and construction crews will focus on completing the raised median and another inside lane in either direction. Although the raised median is not yet installed, left-turns have been restricted to those locations where median openings will exist following the completion of the project. This project is on target to be completed in Spring 2008. TheSH 6 Ramps project is continuing and TxDOT crews are working to complete improvements on the frontage road between Texas Avenue and Rock Prairie Road. The next phase of the project, which will complete the Texas Avenue / Deacon Drive intersection improvements, as well as the new Barron Road exit ramp should be completed by the end of this year. The final phase, that will construct the SH 6 / Rock Prairie Road flyover exit and the remainder of the on/off ramps, should start as soon as the first phase is complete. The City of College Station Dartmouth Drive extension project is making visible progress. With the construction work in full swing, you can see Krenek Tap Road from FM 2818 along the project right-of-way. This project which will extend Dartmouth Drive between Krenek Tap Road and FM 2818, is still scheduled to be finished in the early Spring 2008. If you've driven along Dartmouth Drive through the Wolf Pen Creek area recently, you've probably seen the Manuel Drive extension underway. This project, which is being constructed by Asset Plus Companies as part of the Lofts at Wolf Pen Creek project, will improve connectivity in the local area. While the project will likely be completed soon, it will not be opened to the public until the Lofts at Wolf Pen Creek project is near completion in 2009. The City of College Station will soon be starting on extending the College Station Bike Loop. The bike loop is a hike and bike trail that connects Lemontree Park to Bee Creek Park along the Bee Creek channel. The proposed extension will provide connections toward Texas Avenue near Krenek Tap Road and to Longmire Drive across Bee Creek. The project will involve significant bike and pedestrian improvements at the FM 2818 / Longmire Drive intersection, a pe- destrian bridge over Bee Creek at the end of Longmire Court, and a trail through the Arboretum. This project, which is currently in the design phase, will likely start construction next fall.
