Slower, But Still Growing It is no secret that development and building activities across the Nation have slowed or in some extreme cases, stopped altogether. Portions of Texas have
experienced this trend and it has finally arrived here in College Sta-tion. The good news is, though development and building activities have slowed considerably, some activity continues.
Activities are certainly off the record paces of recent years, yet more than 60 million dollars worth of con-struction has been initiated this year and it is estimated that the population
has grown by more than 600 just since January. Recent activities include the submittal of: a a new residential subdivision -Em-erald Ridge, a 40 estate size lots located on Emerald Parkway
adjacent to Sandstone Drive; a new office building at the corner of Texas Avenue and Poplar Drive; a new hotel on Southwest Parkway; new apartment buildings in Northgate and Wolf Pen
Creek Districts; and new medical facilities near W.D. Fitch and State Highway 6. These projects will soon be joined by the construction of a new expanded Wal-�
�new College Station Independent School District facilities. This edition of the Planning & Development Services newsletter is primarily intended to highlight
current development and building activities and related statistics. The next edition of the newsletter will return to a focus on the re-cently updated Comprehensive Plan, focusing on
plans for its successful im-plementation. The Planning & Development Services Department remains committed to helping the community plan for its future and guiding development and building
activities consistent with adopted ordinances and regulations. I trust that this edition of the newsletter will both portray the current condition of local development and building activities

questions related to planning and development. This section highlights some of the more common questions. If you have questions for the Planner on Call, please contact us at 979-764-3570
or POC@cstx.gov. Q: I would like to know what the zoning is on my property. Where can I find this information? A: There are two simple ways to find the zoning for a piece of property.
One, you can call the Planner on Call and they can assist you. Two, you can access the information at www.cstx.gov by clicking the GIS-Geographic Information Services link on the top
left-hand corner of the Home page. When the GIS page comes onto your screen, scroll down to choose the link for General Map. On this map, select the zoning layer on the right side and
search for your prop-erty by address at the bottom of the page. The map will identify the color associated with the �
�symbol and then click on your property. The zoning information
will be displayed on the bottom of the page. If you need assistance, please feel free to call the Planner on Call for an introduc-tion to the system. Lance Simms, Assistant Director,
has been awarded the Green Building Inspector designation by the International Code Council (ICC). Individu-als who receive the ICC Green Building Inspector designation must pass a certification
examination that tests the applicant's knowledge of green building technology, including site selection, building systems, resource efficiency, and indoor air quality.
