Officer Doug Ervin is helping implement the recently updated smoking ordinance. While the ultimate enforcement lies with the City of College Station Police Department, Code Enforcement
was charged with making contact with local bar and restaurant owners who will, or may be, affected by the new changes, and have them affix the proper signage. Thirty-eight local businesses
were identified and all were contacted during the month of February to ensure a swift and smooth transition period. Frequently asked questions: What do I have to do to become a Tobacco
Specialty Shop and fall under the exception to the new ordinance? Primary purpose of the store and the majority of sales must come from tobacco sales. What do the signs have to say?
No Smoking Why doesn’t the City of Bryan pass an equally restrictive ordinance

at 1101 Texas Avenue and register, or you may print an application from the website and mail it to College Station Planning & Development, PO Box 9960, College Station, TX, 77842. Please
make checks payable to the City of College Station. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST AND WHEN DO I REGISTER? The cost is $15 per year for each property being registered and must be renewed each
year. ARE ALL RENTAL UNITS REQUIRED TO BE REGISTERED WITH THE CITY? No. The ordinance only applies to single-family and duplex rental properties. A rental property is defined as “any
single-family or duplex dwelling unit that is not owner occupied, regardless if rent is charged.” HOW DOES THIS AFFECT THE TENANTS? Tenants are not responsible for this registration.
However, please be aware that no more than four unre-lated individuals can occupy a dwelling unit unit WHAT IF I HAVE A CHANGE OF TENANTS? Property owners do not need to provide change
of tenant information to the City, but current tenant infor-mation is required to be retained by, and when necessary, made available through the local contact person. WHAT IF I LIVE
OUT OF TOWN? You will need to register and designate a local contact person who is responsible for the property. This lo-cal contact cannot be a tenant and must reside within 30 miles
of College Station City Hall. WHY DID THE CITY CHOOSE TO ADOPT THIS PROGRAM? College Station is a growing community with many rental properties due to the number of students who live
here. This ordinance has been considered for many years be-cause of the need to be able to contact a property owner when there are issues that cannot be resolved by the ten-ant. This
type of program has been adopted in many uni-versity communities across the country with much suc-cess. WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T REGISTER? Violation of this City Code is considered a
