Holt, Councilmen Homer Adams, Larry Bravenec, Fred Brison, Don Dale, James Gardner; City Manager North Bardell; City Planner Bill Koehler; Assistant Director of Public Works George Ford; Parks & Recreation Director Paul Wojciechowski; City Attorney Neeley Lewis. MEMBERS ABSENT: Councilman James Dozier. VISITORS PRESENT: See Guest Register. Agenda Item No. 1 - Hear visitors. No one spoke. Agenda Item No. 2 - Discussion of the Hotel-Motel Tax Revenue. City Attorney Lewis discussed the provisions of the legislation concerning the hotel-motel tax and outlined what uses were permitted or mandatory in his interpretation. Discussion by council members followed. Councilman Gardner moved that one-half (1/2) of one (1) per cent of the cost of hotel-Motel occupancy or one-sixth (1/6) of the revenue collected under the hotel-motel tax be spent for the promotion of tourism and advertising the City of College Station. Councilman Brison seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Councilman Adams moved that the recommendations of the Hotel-Motel Tax Revenue Usage Committee be investigated for legality. Councilman Dale seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Councilman Gardner asked that acquisition of park lands and beautification of street rights of way also be investigated for legality of expenditure of hotel-motel tax revenue. Mary Saslow, member of the League of Women Voters, presented the results of a survey on the parks system of College Station as compared to that of Bryan. She then recommended ~that_the hotel-motel tax".revenues be earmarked for expenditure by ,the Parks and Recreation Department of the City of College Station. Michael Murphy presented a report on the appearance of the City of College Station and suggested that the City Council consider expenditure of hotel-motel tax funds for beautification projects within street rights of way. The Council discussed appropriate methods for expenditure of the funds earmarked for promotion and advertising. Councilman Brison moved that individuals be invited to prepare proposals for the preparation of a brochure. Councilman Dale seconded. The motion passed unanimously. Councilman Dale moved the adopting of the attached fee schedule as provided by the Parks and Recreation Committee for swimming pool usage. Councilman BraYenec seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. MINUTES, Called City Council Meeting July 16, 1974 Page 2 Councilman Dale moved the acceptance of the low bid of John Prince for the installation of an irrigation system on the lighted ball field in Bee Creek Park. The bid was in the amount of $2,500.00. Councilman Gardner seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. The Council discussed the Willie Nelson July 4th Picnic and its effects on the City of College Station. Councilman moved that an opening celebration be planned for Bee Creek Park. Councilman Brison seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 P.M. APPROVED Mayor ATTEST City Secretary
