Called City Council Meeting
May 14, 1974
5:00 P.M.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Holt; Councilmen Adams, Bravenec, Brison, Dale,
Dozier, Gardner.
MEMBERS ABSENT: None.
VISITORS PRESENT: See guest register.
The meeting was called to order at 5:05 P.M.
A motion to approve the minutes was made by Councilman Adams. The
motion failed for lack of a second.
A motion to approve the minutes was made by Councilman Brison and
was seconded by Councilman Dozier. The vote was unanimous and the
minutes were approved.
A motion to pass item no. 2, executive session to discuss personnel

appointments, was made by Councilman Bravenec and was seconded by
Councilman Adams. The vote was Gardner, Bravenec, Adams voting yes;
Dale, Brison, Holt voting no.
The meeting went into executive session at 5:15 P.M.
The meeting was called into open session at 6:05 P.M.
Councilman Dozier moves and Councilman Brison seconds the appointment
of Neeley C. Lewis, as City Attorney. The vote was unanimous and
Mr. Lewis was appointed.
Councilman Dale moves and Councilman Bravenec seconds the reappointment
of Mrs. Florence Neelley as City Secretary. The vote was unanimous
and Mrs. N~elley was reappointed.
Councilman Dozier moves and Councilman Gardner seconds the reappointment
of Judge Philip Goode as City Judge. Councilman Bravenec abstained
from voting and Judge Goode was reappointed.
Councilman Dozier moves and Councilman Dale seconds the reappointment
of Dr. T. O. Walton as City Health Officer. The' vote was unanimous and
Dr. Walton was reappointed.
Councilman Dale moves and Councilman Adams seconds that George Boyett,
John Longley, Barney Stevenson be appointed to the Planning and
Zoning C.ommission. Councilman Dozier abstained from voting. Councilmen
Brison, Holt, Adams, and Dale voted in favor of the appointments, while
Councilmen Gardner and Bravenec voted against the appointments.
Councilman Bravenec noted that his vote did not reflect upon the
capabilities of those appointed.
Co'~ncilman Dozier moves and Councilman Dale seconds the adoption of
a resolution supporting the B.V.D.C. matching funds grant for mobile'-
police radios. The vote was unanimously in favor of the motion.

Councilman Brison moves and Councilman Dozier seconds that the City
Manager be authorized to proceed on the renovation of the Mimosa Room
at the least possible expense. The vote was unanimously in favor of
the motion.
Councilman Adams moves and Councilman Dale seconds that the Council be
appointed as the Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals. Councilmen
Dozier, Dale, Brison, and Adams voted yes, while those voting no were
Councilmen Gardner and Bravenec.
Councilman Brison moves and Councilman Bravenec seconds that the variance
requested by Mr. Bob Rice be granted with the provision that the conditions
for use of the structure be as those set forth in the letter of applica-
tion from Mr. Rice. Councilman Brison and Bravenec voted "y. es" and
Councilmen Dozier, Adams, Brison, Mayor Holt voted "no".
Mr. Rice was informed of alternatives available to him.
Councilman Dozier moves and Councilman Dale seconds that the considerations
of the Steering Committee of the Urban Transportation Plan be tabled.
The vote was unanimously in favor of the motion.
Councilman Bravenec suggested that a commendation regarding the time
of regular meetings to the council be included in the minutes.
Councilman Gardner moves, Councilman Dale seconds that meetings be
schedul, ed with the City of Bryan Council, Texas A&M University
Representatives and College Station City Council to discuss common
problems. The vote was unanimously in favor of the motion.
Councilman Brison recommended that a date be set for council consideration
of the Hotel-Motel tax revenue. The Mayor indicated he would study
such a proposition.
Councilman Dozier moved and Councilman Dale seconded that the meeting
adjourn. The motion carried unanimously.
