This notice is to inform you that a meeting for public input will be held on March 4 at 4:30 PM
in the College Station Municipal Courtroom located at 300 Krenek Tap Road (The meeting
originally scheduled for February 23 was canceled due to inclement weather). We invite all
interested parties to come forward and provide input on the issue of taxi regulation at this
meeting of the Council Transportation Committee. The Transportation Committee will make a
recommendation to the City Council of any changes they think necessary.
During a City Council meeting in 2009, questions were asked regarding the City's ordinance as it
relates to fares and the general appearance of the vehicles used as taxis within the City of
College Station. Four taxi companies participated in a subsequent Council Transportation
Committee meeting this past November during which there was much discussion regarding
fares and taxi appearance. At that meeting, members of the Council Transportation Committee
directed staff to invite other stakeholders to the next Transportation Committee meeting.
These include:
- The remaining taxi companies in the city
- Convention & Visitors Bureau
- Representatives of Easterwood Airport
- Hoteliers
- Chamber of Commerce representatives
The City of College Station has regulated taxis for many years. The current city ordinance
addresses numerous topics that are essential to the safe operation of taxis and the safety of the
citizens of College Station. The current ordinance requires each taxi company to obtain a
license, which allows them to operate within the incorporated city. Our current ordinance does
not address fares and contains only a few vehicle requirements.
