September 27, 1954
The City Council met in postponed session at 7:00 p.m. September
27, 1954, with the .following present: Mayor Langford; Councilmen Pugh,
Orr, Seeger, and Sorrels; City Attorney Barger; City Manager Boswell
and City Secretary McGinnis. The following visitors were present:
C. A. Rutledge, C. W. Price, R. H. Baker with Rowles, Winston & Co.
and E. L. Brown, Jr. with Maroney, Beissner & Co.
Mayor Langford reported that in a conversation with Chancellor
M. T. Ha._rrington relative to the cityts continuing to purchase power
from A & M College, agreement was .reached to postpone any definite
conclusion pending the outcome of studies now being made.
At the suggestion of A & M authorities, the Council. agreed to the
appointment-, by the city of the College Community Chest Committee.
Mayor Langford then proposed that the following named citizens consti-
tute the Committee for. 1954-1955•

On motion of Councilman Orr, seconded by Councilman_ Pugh, the ,
vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the proposal.
City Manager Boswell was instructed to confer with A &M
consolidated School. Board relative to an extension of a water main
and the Board's request that the new high school. area be taken into
the city.
Councilman Pugh made a motion, seconded by Councilman Orr, that
Ordinance No. 195, an Ordinance receiving parts of Tracts 7 and 8 of
Woodland Estates into the city be adopted.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
Councilman Sorrels made a motion, seconded by Councilman Seeger,
that the AuditoAs report for 19514. be received and. accepted.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
A letter from Mr. S. L. Loveless relative to the widening of
Highway No. 6 within city limits was read by Mayor Langford.
Councilman Orr made a motion, seconded by Councilman Pugh, that
the Council request the authorities of A & M College to close Spence
Street from the parking lot in the rear of the Petroleum Building to
Sulphur Springs Road.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.

Councilman Sorrels made a motion, seconded by Councilman Pugh,
that Mr. Homer Hunter be requested to meet with Council on October
4, 1954, to discuss the problems of extension of the sewerage system.
The vote of the Council was unanimous in favor of the motion.
