Dear Charles:
I have contacted Mr. Brett McCully who is the City's project manager for the College
Main project. I told him about the Bryan & College Station Interurban Railway historical
marker application and our interest in finding a suitable location for the marker. He has
provided additional information that may be helpful to the commission concerning a
potential site along College Main.
The project will include complete renovation of College Main from University Drive to
Spruce Street. Work will include new pavement, curbs, gutter, sidewalks, storm drains
and bicycle lanes the entire length of the project. Temporary on- street parking will be
allowed between University Drive and Church Street until an additional parking lot can be
constructed. Once this is accomplished, all curb side parking will be prohibited from
University Drive to Spruce Street. However, the high volume of pedestrian traffic in the
Northgate area would provide excellent visibility for the marker.
There is also interest on the part of the City to provide some type of beautification
improvements in support of the approved Streetscape Plan. This could include items such
as brick pavers, cross walks, plantings, signage or lighting. The historical marker could be
an attractive feature in this area that would further enhance the project.
The design and engineering work is currently in progress. Bids are expected to be
received and work started prior to September, 1994. The total project will take
approximately nine months to complete.
