Dear Mrs Young:
The Arts Council of Brazos Valley would like to request the
Brazos County Historical Commission's help in gaining a marker for
the home site, and cemetary of Richard Carter, College Station's
earliest settler.
Enclosed please find the appropriate research (footnoted), the
application form for the official subject marker and post, and the
$475 check for the application and marker for the Texas Historical
Foundation.
We are also enclosing a brochure we had printed, that will be
distributed at the College Station City Hall and Chamber of Commerce

Dear Mr. Vanecek:
Plans for the dedication of the historical marker at the Richard Carter
homesite are about complete. I am enclosing a draft copy. Madge Wallace is
preparing the camera -ready copy for printing. I will bring it by your
office on Tuesday, February 25. We can discuss the printing at that time.-
I have included the playing of the national anthem and "Texas, Our
Texas" on the program, as we discussed. I am presuming that you will have
the tapes and a music reproducing system at the park. If not, call me
(846 -6478) so that I can delete it from the program.
I have sent a letter to Mayor Halter confirming his part on the
program. I have also sent a letter to Mr. Cole inviting him and asking that
all city employees and the City Council be invited. Let me know if others
should receive an invitation. Of course, our press release will indicate
that the public is invited to the ceremony.
As other items occur to me I will be checking with you by telephone.
Sincerely,
.....- _
