Bids were accepted and construction be- gan on the much needed City Hall and Police- Fire Station early this year. The gleaming white City Hall, situated at i the corner of Francis and Texas Avenue, con- _ - tains 9730 square feet of floor space. The Police- `` Fire Station of Similar design is at the south end of an ample four -acre plot and fronts on Gil- . christ Street. The Station contains 5551 square feet and is sufficient to house four 750- gallon- 1 per- minute pumper trucks or two pumpers and an arial ladder truck, should a ladder be pur- 1 chased in the future. The two white LaFrance _ _ pumpers have arrived and will soon be on duty. eeee .. CEEB r k .. I r r ! 14 ' The contract price for both facilities, in- "r cluding furnishings, was Q31,171. A street maintenance project consisting of a lay- er of asphalt applied to curb and gutter streets was initiated in 1968. During 1969, 4 miles of streets received this treatment which should reduce and defer costly street repairs. : The street paving program was slowed by bad weather in 1969 and by problems in relocating un- derground utility lines. However, 1.6 miles of curb and gutter paving were completed and 1.0 mile i still under contract. Plans were completed to construct that portion of Holleman Drive between Winding Road and Glade Street. 4 A Master Plan for principal streets was adopted by the Council as a guide for future street develop- ': . £ ment. mrk Installation of new street signs, initiated in 1968, is continuing.
