COLLEGE STATION'S BEST
Jeff Capps and Pete Otholt (Police) received a letter of APPRECIATION
from two citizens for trying to save their mother's life through CPR. THANKS
for your effort, guys!
John Nelson (Police) received a letter from a motorist THANKING him for
helping out with her flat tire. She felt John went above and beyond the
call of duty!
Phil Brown and Gary Vick (Police) received a letter of APPRECIATION for the
work they performed during a funeral escort for a family. Good job!
The Support Staff in Development Services received a THANK YOU note
from a customer for being helpful. Keep up the great work!!
Sharon Sikorski and Brenda Martz (OTIS - Utility Billing) received a THANK
YOU from a customer for their outstanding customer service. Each
received a gift certificate to Zuka Juice. Yeah!
Mark Silhavy (OTIS - MIS) received a letter of COMMENDATION from the
Police Department for his high quality of work with the Brazos County PSAP
expansion project. Outstanding job, Mark!
'organ Cook, Rodney Zalobny, and Gary Stevener (Fire) attended Aircraft
„scue Firefighter training to receive their advanced CFR certification.
Way to go, guys!!
Mike Ruesink (Fire) recently attended the 1998 Oklahoma Fire & Life Safety
Education Conference. He will be able to use information from the
conference for Fire Prevention Week in October. He also received a
THANK YOU for sharing his time and talents at Camp Aggieland. THANKS,
Mike!!
Garry Lange (PUD - Electrical), Mike Martine (Public Works - Facilities
Maintenance), Ron Mayworm (OTIS - Communications) and their staff
were THANKED by the MIS Department for lending helping hands in the
reconfiguration of the Police Department's computer room. THANKS
everyone!!
A special THANK YOU to all who worked at the Magic School Bus Live
Recycling Program at Post Oak Mall: Wendy Penland, Rob Werley, and Ed
Savage (PUD), and Kathryn Anthony, Cecilia Browder, Kym Rucker, Mike
Watts, Katie Fritz, Wally Urrutia, Pete Caler, Jessie Torres, Chuck Corkhill,
Hector Estrada, Alvaro Garza, and Tommy Collins (Public Works). THANKS
to everyone. Over 6,000 children and adults attended the program!
Greg Wall and John Cook (PUD) were COMMENDED for their effort in
designing and building an aerator. Their efforts saved time, effort, and
money. Outstanding work, guys!

COLLEGE STATION'S BEST CONTINUED
John Ames (PUD) was COMMENDED for acting quickly when
noticing two lights out on a water tower. Way to go, John!
Tommie Person (PUD) was RECOGNIZED for his efforts in saving
time in the process of cleaning spiral aerators. Good job!
David Bratz and Tommie Person (PUD) showed personal initiative
by helping move boards that were in the way of a trench being
dug. They worked non -stop until the job was finished. Way to go!!
Ben Accurso, Dwight Butler, Lawrence Furr, and Earnest Arbuckle
(PUD) were RECOGNIZED for quickly replacing a valve in one of the
water towers. Their efforts allowed the tower to fill on schedule!!
A citizen COMMENDED Embry Humber (PUD) for his professionalism
during a service call. Outstanding, Embry!
Joe Garcia, Pete Garcia, Butch Willis, Joe Hamilton, Thomas
Baranowski, Keith Tinker, Carl Fischer, Lawrence Chavarria, Larry
Mitchell, Jimmy Owens, Benny Williams, Lawrence Furr, Embry
Humber, Dewayne Starks, Jeff Boriski, Victor Martinez, and David
Bettencourt (PUD) were COMMENDED for fixing and replacing
several broken water mains. Their efforts saved time and reduced
the amount of water the City would have lost. Terrific job, guys!!
Jennifer Reeves (PUD) and Cathy Raney (OTIS - GIS) were THANKED
for mounting graphs needed for a council meeting. Yeah!!
United Way Campaign
September marks the start of this year's United Way Campaign, which
will run through the end of October. Please support all the people that
volunteer their time and effort to help adults and children in need in our
community. Also, mark your calendars for Friday, September 25th for
the hamburger cookout at Central Park!!

Employee Profile of
Helen Wilcox
Helen Wilcox was born in
Baltimore, Maryland and moved to
the Bryan/College Station area in 1975. Prior to
moving to BICS, Helen lived in Pennsylvania and
California. She and her husband Walter have four
children and twelve grandchildren. She began working
for the City in 1982. When the Brazos Valley Solid
Waste Management Agency (BVSWMA) was formed in
1990, Helen assumed the duties of Secretary/Scale
Operator at the Rock Prairie Road Landfill.
Helen is a member of Alexander Methodist
Church. She enjoys square dancing, country and
western dancing, camping, traveling, and spending
time with her family.
Health Insurance - Adding Your
Dependents
When you sign up for health insurance in
December, you will have coverage for the
whole plan year - January 1st through
December 31st. You can add dependents
during the year if you have a "Family Life
Change ". Examples of a "Family Life
Change" are: marriage, birth or adoption,
termination of spouse's employment, or
your spouse changes from full -time to part -
time employment.
If you have a "Family Life Change ", and
need to enroll your dependents in the City's
health plan, please contact Ginger at X3576.
You only have 31 days from the time the
"Family Life Change" occurs to add
coverage.
