for National Historic Preservation Month 2005, cosponsored
by the City of College Station Historic Preservation Committee
and the National Trust for Historic Preservation; and
2(//wn , historic preservation is a potential tool for managing growth,
revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride and
maintaining community character while striving to enhance
livability; and

the culture and history of this great City of College Station is a
as rich and fertile as the productive soil of the Brazos River
Valley and therefore worth preserving for our future
generations; and
Ueww,
the study of history is relevant for communities across the
nation, both urban and rural, and for community members of
all ages, all walks of life and all ethnic backgrounds; and
Ueaw,
it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and
the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to
preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us
as a people; and

the City of College Station is committed to celebrating,
documenting and analyzing the past through programs such as
Project HOLD: Historic Online Library Database, the Exploring
History Lunch Lectures, and the Historic Marker initiative,

acting on behalf of the city council, do hereby proclaim the
month of May 2005, as
National Historic Preservation Month
and call upon the people of College Station to join their fellow
citizens across the United States in recognizing and paft4ypaflng
