HomeMy WebLinkAboutBrazos Valley Millennium Commission; resolution (03-04-1999) P IXOC' LAMATION BRAZOS COUNTY COLLEGE STATION BRYAN 11' IIERFAS, we mark our own lives by milestones and annivervartes; we mark the timeline of our nation with commemorations of historical events; and, we now mirk the progress of civilization by recognizing the second Millennium ; and, NN 11VREA% the !Brazos Valley of Texas will celebrate the Millennium by showcasing the achievements that define us as a community, to include our culture , our scholarship, our scientific exploration and our faith ; and , NN 1IEREAS, the Brazos Valley wishes to inspire the conm►erclai and noneeprotit organizations that produce or own much of our cultural material to !like steps to preserve our history ; and, NN III REAS, the Brazos Valley 's citizens are eager to lead in the creation of Millennium programs that reflect and celebrate our heritage ; and , WHEREAS. the arts and humanities are more essential than cier to the endurance of our democratic values of tolerance, pluralism and freedom, and the education of our populace is essential If we are to fully understand our past and envlshna our future; and, WHEREAS. the Arts Council of Brazos Valley has established , on behalf of Bryan , College Station, and Brazos County, the Brazos Valley Millennium Conmiission, composed of city and county officials, non - profit and corporate leaders of our communities, and citizens to coordinate activities, encourage involvement, and facilitate community participation during the celebration of the Millennium at the local, state and national levels. NOW, 'THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, Judge At Jones, Mayor Lonnie Stabler, and Mayor Lynn Mellhaney. do hereby declare the Brazos Valley Millennium so, Commission to be our official community agency to coordinate, facilitate and encourage activities in celebration of the N111leninium, and we do huteby declare Kthe official Millennium theme for the Brazos Valley to Bbe ; "` SEIZE "THE LIGHT !
