HomeMy WebLinkAboutMayor Frank Anderson Frank G. Anderson, was born in Sparta, Tennessee in 1891. He came to College Station in the early 1920s and became the track coach at A. & M. in 1922. He kept that position until 1957, excluding the time in which he served as Commandant of the ROTC and later while serving in WWII. He remained in the reserves throughout WWI, where he held the rank of colonel, and was called back to service for WWII. Anderson served only one agreed term as mayor after Binney resigned. Mayor Anderson’s term: • A&M students put up their own candidate for mayor, although he did not win • Served as both mayor and city manager; aided by a secretary • 1940 -A&M Consolidated moved off campus • City divided into three wards.; two councilmen per ward elected in alternating years • 1940 -The city enacted its first zoning ordinance • City had no bonded indebtedness during his term. 1940 Frank G.
